Behind on your bookkeeping? How to catch up
Months or years behind is more common than you think. Here is a practical order for getting your business records current.

Many business owners fall behind on their books. The work is easy to postpone when customers come first, and then one missed month becomes a year. The good news is that catching up follows a clear order.
Gather your statements
Start with bank and credit card statements for every business account. Most banks let you download past statements online. These are the backbone of the cleanup, even if some receipts are missing.
Separate business from personal
If personal and business spending were mixed, go through the statements and mark which is which. Going forward, a dedicated business account makes this much easier.
Record and reconcile
Enter or import the transactions, assign categories, and reconcile each month against the statement. Reconciling is what confirms the books match what really happened in the bank.
Handle missing returns
Once the books are current, you can see whether any tax or payroll filings are missing. It is usually better to file late than not to file, and we can prepare past years along with the current one.
Set a routine
A short monthly routine keeps you from starting over. Our catch-up service brings your records up to date, and monthly bookkeeping can keep them that way.
