A tax appointment goes faster when the paperwork is in one place. You do not need everything perfectly organized, but this list covers what we ask for most often.

Identification

Bring a photo ID and the Social Security number or ITIN for everyone on the return, including your spouse and dependents. If you are new to our office, a copy of last year’s return is very helpful.

Income

Bring every W-2 and 1099 you received. That includes 1099-NEC or 1099-K forms for contract work and app-based work, 1099-INT and 1099-DIV for bank and investment income, and 1099-R for retirement income. If you were paid in cash or by check, bring your own record of those amounts.

Expenses and deductions

If you work for yourself or rent out a property, bring your income and expense totals, mileage records, and receipts for larger purchases. Families should also bring child care statements, Form 1098 for mortgage interest, and Form 1098-T for tuition.

Changes during the year

Tell us if you moved, married, divorced, had a child, started a business, or worked in another state. These changes can affect what you file and what you owe.

Missing something? Come in anyway. Our front desk will check what you have and tell you what is still needed before we start.

Have a question about your situation?

These articles are general information, not tax advice. Tell us what is going on and we will go through it with you, in English or Spanish.
